Lorain’s female softball pitching genius, Julie started her path to fame by
pitching her ‘Old Dutch’ team to All-Ohio honors in 1961 and then repeated
this accomplishment consecutively until 1969.
In 1962, her team captured the Regional Championship and went on to
place ninth in the world.
Old Dutch captured the state title in 1962, ’64, ’68, and ’69, which happened to be Julie’s best year.
During that 1969 season, Julie won 22, lost four and recorded 10 shut-outs. In state competition, Julie won four games, allowed only one run in 31 innings, faced 103 batters, allowed only 11 hits and even managed to throw in a no-hit game for good measure.
Julie fanned 34 batters, walked one and did not allow a run in the final
19-2/3 innings pitched.
Julie was named All-Ohio second baseman in 1952, ’53, ’54 and ’55.
In 1970, Julie pitched for Ashland and led them to a state crown. Julie
was also named as All-Star pitcher in the World Fast Pitch Tournament in
1962.
