Diana Biber – (2000)

An outstanding athletic career, both on the high school and college level, has translated to even greater opportunities for Lorain’s Diana Biber. A 1976 graduate of Southview High School, Diana starred in four sports while earning 12 varsity letters, three each in girls basketball, volleyball, tennis and track. Her basketball accomplishments for the Saints was highlighted by a 38-point performance, a single game scoring record for both boys and girls.

In an era when the boys were regularly named “Player of the Week” for their athletic accomplishments, Diana was the first female athlete to be recognized over her male counterparts for her basketball feats by The Lorain Morning Journal.

She continued her athletic excellence on an athletic scholarship at Ohio University where she would earn eight varsity letters for the Bobcats: four in basketball, three in volleyball and one in tennis, all after undergoing knee surgery. Among her numerous individual awards at OU were: being named to the All-Tournament first team in the 1976 Girls’ Volleyball Regional Tournament in Chicago; receiving Most Valuable Player honors at the Michigan Women’s Basketball Tournament in 1980.

While her athletic achievements were widely acclaimed, Diana also excelled in the classroom. She added a Masters Degree to her Bachelor’s Degree at OU, graduating with an impressive 3.9 GPA.

Following graduation from OU, Diana’ was selected to play professionally with the New Jersey Gems. Unfortunately, women’s basketball in that era was not supported like it is today and the league folded after two months. She managed to stay with basketball, however, at the University of Texas where she became athletic director for girls’ sports.

Now residing with her parents in Sheffield Village, Diana is employed by widely acclaimed International Management Group (IMG) in Cleveland. She serves as IMG’s management financial controller setting up finance parameters in major cities prior to professional men’s and women’s golf, skating, volleyball and tennis events.
