Baldo Campana – (1984)

Baldo Campana

A man possessed by bowling at the age of forty, Baldo Campana enjoys the distinction of being one the the area’s finest bowlers, at the age of fifty-nine. “I seem to be getting better with age,” says Baldo, “I thank the Lord for the physical ability to continue.”

Induction into the Lorain Bowling Hall of Fame in 1980 renewed his unyielding pursuits of excellence. Being given the honor was the impetus for future success at higher levels of participation.

The gregarious, gentlemanly Baldo has won the hearts of those who participate with him on the pro circuit, as well as their respect. His average of 205 was impressive in the Showboat Invitational Tournament, and his high game as a professional was 289. On a Professional Senior Tour in 1983, Baldo ranked 15th among such names as Dick Weber and Glenn Allison. He also participated with bowling great Earl Anthony in the Kessler Classic in 1981.

Baldo’s strong emphasis on success through hard work and concentration produced Hall of Fame results. His successes range from city championship, i.e. doubles and singles, to state recognition — winning all events. He was also a member of the Elk state championship team and the singles winner at the N.C. District in Wooster with a high game of 278. Baldo’s list of area accomplishments are fathomless: thirty 700 series and a sanctioned 300 game. He still holds the Lorain County double’s figure with a 1534.

Baldo has compiled remarkable statistics during his career and is still continuing to bowl impressive figures, as exemplified by his most recent two-man single’s score of 547 — which ranks among the top ten in the nation. Another recent top ten ranking figure is a three-game double’s score of 1464.

Although he continues to bowl regularly in league play and practices frequently for the pro circuit, Baldo still finds time to instruct players in the Junior Youth Bowling Program. The sixteen years he has given to the Junior Bowlers in our community reflect the image of the man. Making a commitment to our young is an intangible that sets Baldo apart in a very special way.
