JOHN DOSLAK

An outstanding fastpitch softball pitcher for two decades, his favorite sport was bowling, and after 35 years of service to the Lorain Bowling Association he is known as “Lorain’s Mr. Bowling”.

During the “golden era” of fastpitch softball — the late 1930’s to the mid-1950’s — he competed with the best athletes of his day, including Hall-of-Famers Bruno “Bumpy” Skolnicki, Mike Zelesky, John Skolnicki, Joe Carek, John “Duke” Ducar, Joe Costello, Archie Jenkins and Clarence “Tubby” Wolfe.

He has served three terms as President of the Lorain Bowling Association, plus an incredible 16 terms as secretary-treasurer. Thanks largely to his efforts, the Lorain Bowling Association now ranks among the best associations of its kind in the country.

In addition, he has been elected as a delegate to the American Bowling Congress national convention a total of 15 times. Currently he serves as activities director for the National Slovak Society of America, and is active in the Slovak Bowling Congress of America.

As kingpin of local keglers, he keeps records of 8,000 bowlers and publishes their averages annually.

Mr. Doslak’s contributions to the local sports scene are legendary, and in 1980 he was inducted into the Lorain Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame.
