Gloria Holtwick

Helen Wills Moody, Alice Marble, Pauline Betz and Doris Hart were names of world renown on the tennis courts.

Maureen Connally rose to No. 1 in 1952-53 and that’s exactly when Gloria DiLuciano began her achievements as a sports figure.

She was a fast starter–zooming to the city championship for ”Girls 18 and under” in 1953. Three years later, Gloria skyrocketed to No. 1 in women’s singles play.

That was only the beginning. She strutted off with the city trophies in 1959-61-62 and was runner-up in the same division in 1954-55-60-63.

After Gloria became Mrs. Holtwick in 1964, she moved to Amherst and became ineligible for additional laurels on Lorain courts.

However, that didn’t stop her–she went on to greater heights, facing foes from widespread areas and dominating ”Lorain International Festival” tournaments, winning

”Women’s Doubles” in 1972-73-74; ”Mixed Doubles” in 1972-74 and 1982; ”Husband & Wife Doubles” in 1974-75-76; ”Women’s Doubles” (35 Years and Over) in 1982.

As a member of Oak Hills Tennis Club, Gloria moved into the spotlight as Queen of ”Husband & Wife Doubles” in 1975; ”Women’s Advanced Singles” in 1975; ”Women’s Advanced Doubles” in 1975-76-78-81-82; ”Mixed Advanced Doubles” in 1975-77-82.

While consistently flashing superior power in this area, she grabbed additional honors by joining the World Team Tennis League Northern Ohio–winning ”Women’s Singles” in 1975-77; ”Women’s Doubles” in 1975; ”Mixed Doubles” in 1976-77.

And that’s not all–far from it!

Gloria signed for action in the Lorain County Tennis Tournament, showing skills and techniques of a seasoned veteran in torrid battles. She won the ”Mixed Doubles” (35 Years and Over) in 1982; ”Women’s Doubles” (35 Years and Over) in the same year; and was also runner-up in ”Women’s Open Doubles” in 1982.

Needless to say, she’s busy these days polishing trophies.
