Jabbusch, Harry

Harry Jabbusch – (1976)

Harry played football for Lorain High in 1943, 1944 and 1945 and was an All-Lake Erie League first teamer in 1945.

Harry went on to play college football for South Carolina University where he earned honors at both the center and linebacker positions.

In 1951, Harry was an All-South selection in addition to earning All-Southern Conference honors. He was a member of the 1951 College All-Stars and earned honorable mention on the Associated Press All-America team.

Harry was a member of the Saturday Evening Post’s ‘Unsung Squad’, honoring those players who belong on the All-America squad, but who figured to get shut out because their teams face rough going or because there were better publicized men on their own squad.

Jabbusch gained rave reviews as a sophomore at South Carolina when he sparked the Gamecocks defense and halted North Carolina’s Charlie ‘Choo Choo’ Justice.

He later directed the South Carolina defense to a stunning victory over Clemson, 20-0, before 35,000 fans at Carolina Stadium.

Jabbusch, who was all over the field defensively, scored the Gamecocks third touchdown after intercepting a Clemson aerial.

The victory over Clemson was tabbed as Jabbusch’s finest showing, in a game of vicious tackling and brutal blocking.
