Long before he entertained a fine basketball coaching career at Lorain High and Admiral King, Al was known as “Mr. Basketball of Lorain.” A leader, he performed in four sports at Lorain High and Wooster College, being elected captain of the 1926 Lorain and 1931 Wooster cage teams. Picked on “All-Time” Wooster team. Named the “Greatest Passer” in Wooster cage history by retired Scot coach Mose Hole. Also prominent with semi-pro baseball and cage teams such as Lyon Tailors and Pennzoils. Guided 16 cage crowns in 23 years at Whittier Junior High. Only coach to nail Buckeye Conference cage titles at two schools, winning one at Lorain and two at King. Career coaching mark near .700 included two Regional berths at King.
