STAN PINCURA

Still rated the finest quarterback in Lorain
High School history, Stan Pincura has the
added distinction of having played for Earl
McCaskey, being a brother of Judge John
Pincura — both enshrined in the Lorain
Sports Hall last year — and being a former
teammate of Sam Busich who is a fellow 1972
enshrinee today. A three-year (1929-30-31)
letterman at LHS, he guided the 1930 state
championship team which is also recognized
today. Stan went to Ohio State University—
as did Busich—where he won additional foot-
ball honors, including being quarterback of the 1935 Big 10 Co-Cham-
pionship team. In 1935 he earned All-American honorable mention hon-
ors and his passing records even surpassed those of the great Sammy
Baugh. He was chosen to play on the 1936 College All-Star team which
tied the Detroit Lions, 14-14. Playing in the 60-minute era of pro foot-
ball, he was signed by the old Cleveland Rams and played both quarter-
back and defensive safety from 1936 thru 1938. Lesser known were
his talents in softball. Stan was a superior second baseman. Small of
stature (5’11”, 160 pounds), he was the good little man who was every
bit as good as the good big man.
