To mention Kim Walton as being one of the greatest all around prep athletes in the storied history of athletics in Lorain would not be exaggerating and certainly cannot be denied.
In four years at Admiral King High School, not only did Kim manage to earn 12 varsity letters in four different sports, basketball, volleyball, softball and track and field, but she excelled and dominated in each and every sport in which she participated.
The greatest girls basketball player ever to play at Admiral King High School, without dispute, was Kim Walton. Her accomplishments on the court were only rivaled by her love for the game and the tenacity with which she played. As a Lady Admiral, Kim earned four varsity letters and made first team All Buckeye Conference each of her four years. She was named the Most Valuable Player in the Buckeye Conference her junior and senior years but the honors did not stop there.
In her junior season, Kim would receive All-Ohio recognition for the first time, making the third team. Kim’s senior year, the 1982-83 season, was truly the culmination of a great career. In that season Kim was named All-Ohio first team, Player of the Year in the State of Ohio and a Prep All-American. Kim Walton finished her basketball career at Admiral King as the career leader in points, rebounds, steals and blocked shots.
In track and field, Walton achieved many honors for herself and her team. While competing in the high jump, long jump and 400 meter relay, she led her Lady Admiral track teams to sectional and district championships. She also competed locally in the Lorain County Pentathlon, winning the event twice, setting point records both times and as a senior she won every event.
As a volleyball player Kim was a 4-year letter winner, earning All Buckeye Conference first team in each of those four years. She was also named to the All Lorain County team for three consecutive seasons. Not to be left off the diamond, Kim also found the time to play softball where she won two varsity letters and made the All Lorain County team in her senior season.
Following her amazing high school career and accomplishments, Kim was awarded an athletic scholarship to The Ohio State University to continue her basketball career. As a freshmen at Ohio State she started several games for the varsity squad in the 1983-84 season. Kim then chose to transfer to Ohio University where she met with unfortunate luck, sustaining an injury causing her to be red-shirted for the 1984-85 season. Undeterred from the year off Kim would spend the next 3 seasons as a starter for the varsity team earning All Mid-American Conference second team honors as a junior and first team honors in her senior year. Several times Kim was recognized as a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week.
