Costello, Joe

 

Joe Costello – (1975)

 

Played semi-pro football for five
years and was an outstanding runner.
As a slashing runner he was well-
known for his gift of speed.

Joe played pro softball for ten
years as a member of the National
Softball League. He played third base
with semi-pro clubs in the late 1930’s
and 40’s. His name became synony-
mous with the long ball. Joe was the
home run champion and RBI leader
of the Lorain team in the National
Softball League during several sea-
sons. He was selected to the All-State
First Team as a third baseman.

Joe played with the great Sobel Jewelers, Yepko Meats and
J.C. Schrader teams.

As a football player he played on the Lorain Czarniecki Club teams
that captured championships in the Ohio Semi-Pro competition.
