Roger Doane has made a name for himself in the sports world in a field of endeavor not as well-known to many of us as baseball, football, basketball, boxing or track. Doane is a master in the world of sail boating.
Doane, a 1939-A graduate of Lorain High School and the University of Denver in 1948, is vice president and treasurer of C.M. Doane Electric Company Inc.
He was the Club Champion in sailing competition in the Lorain Yacht Club in 1937, 1938, 1939, 1949 and 1952. In the Vermilion Boat Club in 1950, 1955, 1963, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1973.
He was the champion winner in the McGarvey Series in 1967, 1970 and 1971. He captured the International Star Class Series championship in 1949 and the Great Lakes Championship in 1957.
He was the Inter-Lakes Yachting Association Class Champion in 1937, 1949 and 1954.
He won the Bacardi Series Daily First in Miami, Fla. in 1965.
He has qualified for and participated in the World Championship in Caracas, Venz. in 1972, North American Championship in Toronto, Canada in 1970, North American Championship in Rockport, Mass. in 1970, the Great Lakes Junior Championship in Chicago, Ill. in 1936, Class Championship Inter-Lakes Yachting Association in 1937, 1949 and 1954.
He competed in the North American Spring Championship in Nassau in 1969 and in New Orleans in 1968.
