JOHN DUCAR

John was considered by many to be one of the most versatile athletes ever to compete in this area. He excelled in basketball, baseball, softball, and bowling. In basketball, he was high point man and top rebounder for teams like Pennzoils and Fisher Foods and competed as a member of the Cleveland Aces Lunches in the Denver A.A.U. Tournament. He played baseball for some top teams in Class A such as Duskey Brothers, Lyon Tailors, Verhovay’s and St. Nicks. Ducar was signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played in the minors for a short time and returned to Lorain and excelled in softball as a fine pitcher and a good hitter. He played for the best teams in the Lorain – Cleveland area for fifteen years. John bowled in the Class A leagues for many years and carried a 190 average.
