WALTER AND EDWARD DUSKEY
Inducted April 25, 1979
In 1929 they opened a gas station at the corner of 19th Street and Broadway, and for 50 years it has been a landmark for Lorain sports.
During the Depression, when sponsors were virtually nonexistent, these two brothers came to the rescue of sports in the city. They backed teams in baseball, softball, bowling and basketball, never seeming to understand what the word “no” meant.
Their participation in local sporting events was limitless. They helped to sell tickets for all athletic activities, and chartered numerous buses to football and baseball games.
If not for their generosity and kindness, many an athlete would never have had the opportunity to display his talents. The teams they sponsored won countless championships, and were acclaimed for their fair play and sportsmanship.
Still active at the age of 80, Mr. Edward Duskey serves as a director of the Central Businessmen’s Association and as a commissioner of the Lorain Boxing and Wrestling Commission.
Mr. Walter Duskey, at 73 the “youngster” of the dynamic duo, is the director of a bank and also serves as a director of the Central Businessmen’s Association.
