CHRISTINE SALADIN

One of the most prolific multi-sport athletes ever to come out of Lorain High School, Chris (Nagy) Saladin’s career was filled with honors, awards, as well as teammate and coach recognition. The 1988 Steelmen graduate was awarded 12 varsity letters during her time at LHS including four in volleyball, four in basketball and two each in softball and track.

Chris was an outstanding volleyball player at LHS and was named first team all Lorain County in both her junior and senior years. She was the Lady Steelmen team captain in both years and was recognized as Special Mention for the coveted Lorain County Miss Volleyball award. Her skills on the volleyball court also won her 1st team all Erie Shores Conference in her senior year and 2nd team all Erie Shores in her junior year.

Chris joined the LHS track team in her junior year following two successful seasons as a member of the softball team. In track, she was one of only 13 members of the 1988 District Champion team that was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Chris set two school records that year in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs.

Chris’ outstanding records in volleyball and track were only eclipsed by her accomplishments on the basketball court. A four-year starter for Coach Bill Kingsley, she finished her career with 1,617 points which was good enough for 2nd place in school history. She earned 2nd team all-state in her senior season as well as the Lorain County Miss Basketball award. She averaged 22 points, six rebounds and four assists per game in her senior year and led the county in scoring. As a junior, Chris was voted team MVP, received Honorable Mention All State and was 1st team all Erie Shores Conference and Lorain County.

A great student and student leader at Lorain High, Chris was President of her senior class, was a member of the National Honor Society and a member of Girls Buckeye State. She graduated fourth in her class of 286 students.

Following graduation, Chris continued her studies and basketball career at the University of Charleston, a highly successful member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). While at UC, Chris was named 1st team all WVIAC in her senior year. She remains one of 40 players in UC history to score 1,000 or more points. In her junior year, she was awarded the prestigious Emil S. Liston award for academic, athletic and sportsmanship excellence.

Today, Chris and her husband, Chad, reside in Lorain where she currently serves as a mental health, marriage and family therapist in private practice.
